Pre-Apprenticeship Instructor

Jacob Barrus is our Pre-Apprenticeship Instructor, dedicated to introducing individuals to the manufacturing trades. His focus is on building foundational skills, including forklift operation, precision measuring tools, knee mills, drill presses, band saws, 3D printing, CNC milling, and engine lathes. He also covers essential manufacturing concepts such as safety, 5S/Lean practices, additive manufacturing, and mathematics.

Jacob has spent his entire career in manufacturing, beginning as a deburr technician and advancing to a machinist through hands-on experience, mentorship, and self-driven learning. His journey—marked by a commitment to growth and continuous learning—has given him a unique perspective on mastering a trade. This experience is especially relevant in today’s rapidly evolving landscape, where leveraging technology to address workplace challenges is more important than ever. Jacob’s approach empowers students to find solutions independently, fostering adaptability in the age of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.

When he’s not teaching, Jacob is often at his computer learning new skills, working on creative projects, playing video games, hiking, or soaring through the air while pole vaulting.
